Kent Clinches Six-Wicket Victory Over Leicestershire with Bell-Drummond’s Unbeaten Century

Kent captain Daniel Bell-Drummond led his team to a crucial victory in the Metro Bank One Day Cup, scoring an unbeaten 133 runs to secure a six-wicket win against Group A leaders Leicestershire Foxes. The match concluded with Kent needing just two-and-a-half overs to spare after successfully chasing down Leicestershire’s total of 261 for 7.

Leicestershire, opting to bat first, faced challenges early in their innings. Rishi Patel was dismissed for 18, caught behind off Grant Stewart, followed by Tom Scriven’s departure for 6 after skying a delivery to Stewart. Matt Parkinson struck twice in quick succession, with both Stephen Eskinazi (26) and Nick Kelly (0) stumped by Chris Benjamin within three deliveries.

The Foxes’ struggles continued as Tawanda Muyeye dismissed Ben Cox for 20, with Harry Finch taking a catch at mid-on, and Ian Holland fell lbw to Jaydn Denly for 23. At this stage, Leicestershire found themselves in trouble at 156 for 6.

Hamza Shaikh played a pivotal role, anchoring the innings until the final ten overs, eventually scoring 93 runs. He partnered with Ben Green, who contributed a solid 57 not out. Their partnership of 98 provided much-needed momentum, but Shaikh fell in the last over, skying a catch to Finch off Matt Quinn.

In the latter stages, Muyeye added 30 runs before hitting a catch to Eskinazi, while two quick dismissals threatened to swing the momentum back to Leicestershire. Sam Northeast, initially on 27, skated past a caught-and-bowled opportunity presented by Mo Rivzi, and later fell for 32, hitting a catch to Green at backward point. Jaydn Denly followed soon after, dismissed for 5, leaving Finch, who scored 30, and Benjamin to guide Kent over the line.

With this victory, Kent remains in contention for the Metro Bank One Day Cup, bolstered by Bell-Drummond’s exceptional performance.
