Trent Rockets Secure Final Spot With Victory Over Southern Brave
Trent Rockets defeated Southern Brave by three wickets at Trent Bridge, scoring 118 for 7 in pursuit of the Brave’s 117 for 5, securing a place in the final at Lord’s on Sunday. Nat Sciver-Brunt played a pivotal role, contributing 32 runs off 19 balls from the No. 7 position, in spite of concerns regarding her ongoing calf injury.
Southern Brave, needing a substantial victory margin of around 94 runs to overtake the Rockets and top the table, fell short after being asked to bat first. Maia Bouchier led their innings with 38 runs, while Lizelle Lee chipped in with 31. However, the Brave struggled to maintain a competitive run rate, finishing with no sixes in their innings and collapsing from 95 for 1 to 117 for 5.
Trent Rockets had a dismal start to their innings, finding themselves at a meager 10 for 3 after the powerplay—the lowest powerplay score in the tournament’s history. The Brave’s Lauren Bell, Issy Wong, and Tilly Corteen-Coleman were instrumental in dismantling the Rockets’ top order, but captain Ash Gardner and Bess Heath combined for a crucial 53-run partnership.
After their dismissals brought Sciver-Brunt to the crease with 51 runs needed off 30 balls, she quickly shifted the momentum, scoring 25 in just nine balls, including three consecutive boundaries off Wong. Sciver-Brunt emphasized that her batting position was a mix of tactical strategy and managing her injury, saying, “A bit of both. We’ve batted quite well as a side, so [I was] allowing some others to have a little hit, and a bit of body management as well.”
Following a run-out of Georgia Adams, who excelled with the ball, taking 2 for 14, Georgia Elwiss provided support with a steady 10 runs off four balls to help secure the win for the Rockets. The Brave’s defeat marked their third consecutive loss, leading them to face the winner of Tuesday’s match between Manchester Super Giants and Sunrisers Leeds in the eliminator at The Oval on Friday.
