Georgia Adams Shines as Hampshire Secures Four-Wicket Win Over Surrey

Georgia Adams marked the celebration of her two-year contract extension with an impressive performance, leading Hampshire to a four-wicket victory over Surrey at Guildford. This win bolsters Hampshire’s bid for an automatic spot in the final at the Utilita Bowl next month.

In a standout display, Adams, who was also named Player of the Match after the Trent Rockets clinched the Hundred final on Sunday, contributed significantly with both bat and ball. She took 3 for 40 with her offbreaks and scored 115 runs off 103 balls, helping her side chase down Surrey’s target of 229 with 51 balls remaining.

Surrey took first knock after Hampshire won the toss, with openers Jordan King and Alice Monaghan getting off to a strong start against Hampshire’s bowlers. King and Monaghan capitalized on loose deliveries from Daisy Gibb and Naomi Dattani, with Monaghan launching a full toss from Bex Tyson for six. However, the tide turned when Adams caught and bowled King, just five runs shy of his half-century, followed by Monaghan’s dismissal in Adams’ next over.

Surrey’s new overseas signing, Sune Luus, had a brief outing, bowled out by Tyson. Amanda-Jade Wellington then dismantled the middle order, claiming 4 for 37. Captain Kira Chathli fell to a top-edge sweep, while Priyanaz Chatterji’s similar attempt resulted in a catch for deep square. Jemima Spence and Phoebe Franklin also succumbed, leaving Davidson-Richards as the sole survivor for a stout recovery, scoring 61 before falling lbw to Poppy Tulloch.

In response, Adams and Ella McCaughan replicated Surrey’s aggressive approach, amassing 50 runs in just 46 balls. McCaughan was dismissed by Chatterji, and despite a dropped catch, Abi Norgrove added minimal runs before succumbing to Bethan Miles’ spin. Adams compiled a rapid 50, dominating the bowlers, and continued to flourish with sixes and boundaries, ultimately reaching her century.

Although Hampshire lost Rhianna Southby to a catch at midwicket, Nancy Harman (37 not out) guided the team to victory, solidifying the match’s outcome.
