Ford Trophy Set for Competitive Opening with Auckland vs Canterbury and Wellington vs Otago
The first round of the Ford Trophy will see Auckland facing Canterbury and Wellington taking on Otago. This ten-round men’s one-day competition will mirror the structure of recent seasons, with the initial five rounds scheduled for October and November. Following a break for the Plunket Shield and Super Smash, the competition will resume in February leading up to the Finals Weekend.
Matches will be held at 14 venues throughout the season, catering to both men’s and women’s competitions. Notably, Auckland’s Colin Maiden Park will make its return to the schedule after its redevelopment.
NZC chief cricket operations officer Catherine Campbell emphasized the accessibility of the matches, stating, “No matter where you live in Aotearoa, there’s a good chance a Ford Trophy or Hallyburton Johnstone Shield match is coming to a ground near you this summer.” She highlighted the opportunity for fans to engage with top domestic talent at various regional venues.
The combination of the Finals Weekend concept has proven successful, and it will return to the Cello Basin Reserve this summer. This scheduling coincides with New Zealand’s international summer, ensuring high-quality cricket is available throughout the peak summer months.
The schedule for the Plunket Shield will be revealed on September 2, with the Super Smash schedule to follow later in September.
