Dina Thorslund Claims Undisputed Championship with Unanimous Victory Over Cherneka Johnson

In a highly anticipated matchup at MVPW-5 on Saturday night in Orlando, Florida, Dina Thorslund regained her status as an undisputed champion. The undefeated Thorslund, who previously vacated her WBC and WBO bantamweight titles due to pregnancy, decisively defeated Cherneka Johnson to claim the WBC, WBO, WBA, and IBF titles, winning every round by unanimous decision.

Thorslund’s return to the ring comes more than a year after vacating her titles in June 2025, followed by a public announcement of a miscarriage a month later. She made her comeback in January by winning the vacant WBC interim featherweight title against Almudena Alvarez. The 32-year-old Danish boxer then moved back to bantamweight to vie for the undisputed championship.

This fight carried additional emotional weight for Thorslund, as she faced personal challenges leading up to the event. Her training partner, Raven Chapman, underwent emergency brain surgery last month after collapsing during a sparring session in Denmark. “This has been such an emotional journey for me the last year,” Thorslund reflected, fighting back tears. She dedicated her win to Chapman, stating, “I’m going to take this straight back to Raven and say thank you.”

Thorslund dominated the fight from the beginning, launching aggressive combinations that left Johnson on the defensive. By the end of the third round, Thorslund had significantly outpunched Johnson, landing 37 punches to Johnson’s 14. The final punch count stood at 103-62, with all three judges scoring the bout 100-90 in favor of Thorslund.

Johnson, who previously became the undisputed champion by knocking out Shurretta Metcalf in July 2025, struggled to make an impact against Thorslund’s relentless offense. Every time Johnson managed to connect, Thorslund responded with rapid-fire combinations.

Thibeault Captures IBF and WBO Middleweight Titles

The co-main event showcased another impressive performance, with Tamm Thibeault, a former amateur world champion and two-time Olympian from Canada, claiming the IBF and WBO middleweight belts from Desley Robinson. This victory marked Thibeault’s ascent to champion in just her fifth professional fight.

Thibeault controlled the match from the outset, with a significant moment occurring in the first round when she sent Robinson into the ropes with a powerful straight left. Although Robinson (12-4, four KOs) managed to endure a barrage of punches, Thibeault continued to dominate, landing a staggering 50 power shots compared to Robinson’s 12 by the fifth round.

Despite facing a minor setback in Round 6 from a clash of heads that resulted in a bloody nose, Thibeault maintained her momentum, winning every round on each judge’s scorecard. Speaking about her dual title win, Thibeault, now 5-0 with three KOs, remarked, “A little heavy, but I like it. I want more.”
