She felt fortunate to have enjoyed an epic run in the series and noted that the show’s nature allows it to continuously reinvent itself with new stories each season.
Season 4 left the narrative with Penelope’s retirement, while a new mystery scribe will take over the Lady Whistledown mantle, continuing to be narrated by the iconic Julie Andrews. Coughlan mentioned that she is unaware of the identity of this new writer, stating, “They know not to tell me. But I genuinely have no clue and it’s quite nice not to know.”
Coughlan confirmed that her screen time will be reduced in Season 5. Despite this, she expressed appreciation for the opportunity to still visit the set while filming other projects, particularly Only Murders in the Building. “I feel very lucky. It’s the best of both worlds,” she remarked, indicating the lower pressure associated with not being the lead character.
Other cast members have also expressed a desire to return to Bridgerton. Simone Ashley, who plays Kate, indicated her willingness to reprise her role, acknowledging uncertainty regarding the storyline and her involvement. Likewise, Phoebe Dynevor, who has not been seen since Season 2, shared her fondness for the show, indicating her openness to a potential return. “I’d love to have been there the whole time, but I had to pass on the baton,” she said.
