The residence’s former living spaces were structurally altered to feature a walk-in beer cave with silver insulation, a kitchen bar checkout counter, and a sliding door drive-through to serve customers buying products ranging from everyday essentials to over 60 brands of beer.
High Paychecks and Lucrative Lifestyles Draw an Armada of Laborers
Pipe fitters, ironworkers, and HVAC technicians working on the data center complex earn hourly wages that can exceed $200,000 a year after taxes, supplemented by daily per diems ranging from $150 to $250. Operating on grueling schedules of 10 to 14 hours a day for 13 consecutive days followed by a single day off, these laborers spend freely at the Elmdale Outpost, where cashiers frequently clear over $100 in daily tips and price tags are omitted because customers rarely ask for item costs. The store has become a central community fixture for the transient workforce and their families, offering specialized items, custom beer orders, and Spanish-language service.
