Emma Raducanu to Miss US Open Due to Stress Fracture
Emma Raducanu will be unable to compete in the upcoming US Open due to a stress fracture in her right lower leg. The British No. 1 suffered the injury during the grass-court season, which also led her to withdraw from Wimbledon. After consulting with her medical team, Raducanu determined that she would not be ready to play in New York later this month.
This announcement, while disappointing, is not unexpected given the severity of her injury and her recent return to the court in a protective boot. The 23-year-old has faced a challenging year marked by ongoing physical issues, including a foot injury that hindered her pre-season training and a post-viral illness that kept her off the court for two and a half months starting in early February.
Raducanu’s recent efforts had shown promise, including a successful run at the Queen’s Club in June, where she reached her largest final since winning the US Open five years ago. However, those achievements came at a cost, exacerbating her existing physical challenges. Following this brief success, the press reports that she has not been included in Great Britain’s team for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals at the end of September.
As a result of her withdrawal from the US Open, Raducanu is expected to slide from her current ranking of 49. Despite the setbacks, she recently shared an optimistic message on Instagram during a break in Switzerland, describing it as the “best reset ever.”
