Bulkhead’s Wardogs Surpasses One Million Sales in Early Access Launch

⚡ Quick Read (30-Sec Summary):

  • Wardogs has sold over one million copies shortly after its early access launch on Steam.
  • The game experienced server congestion, preventing some players from joining matches.
  • PS5 and Xbox versions are confirmed for 2028, with no specific release date yet.

Wardogs, a tactical shooter developed by Derby-based studio Bulkhead, has achieved over a million copies sold and has surpassed 350,000 concurrent players within hours of its early access launch on Steam.

According to IGN, the spike in player counts led to significant server queues, causing numerous players to face delays in joining matches due to server congestion.

“To cross a million copies sold as we launch into early access is mental,” stated Bulkhead CEO Joe Brammer. He added, “We’ve spent the last few months showing people exactly what Wardogs is, what it isn’t, and at one point literally gave everyone ten reasons not to buy it. We didn’t want people buying into blind hype.”

Brammer emphasized the importance of player feedback, saying, “Seeing more than one million people choose to jump in and play the game at early access launch means a huge amount to all of us. But this is still early access. We’ve got things to fix, things we want to improve, and a lot more we want to build. The best thing players can do now is keep playing, keep telling us what they think and keep giving us those ridiculous Wardogs moments.”

Wardogs features gameplay that supports up to 100 players in three-way combat over control points, combining tactical shooting with vehicle combat, base construction, and destructible terrain.

Currently available exclusively on PC via Steam, Wardogs is priced at £36.99. Bulkhead has confirmed that versions for PS5 and Xbox are expected to launch in 2028, although no specific release date has been provided.

Bulkhead anticipates that player interest will gradually stabilize, as the studio plans to implement a measured rollout of content updates instead of attempting to maintain peak numbers post-launch.
