Playground Games Confirms Forza Horizon 6 Release on PS5 This Year

Playground Games has dispelled rumors regarding a delay for the anticipated PlayStation 5 version of Forza Horizon 6. This confirmation follows a week of speculation about a potential hold-up for the game’s release.
In a recent blog post detailing the game’s latest major update, the developer reiterated that Forza Horizon 6 is slated for a PS5 launch this year, although specific release dates or timeframes were not disclosed.
A statement in the blog post noted, “If you’re planning your trip to Discover Japan on PlayStation 5, stay tuned! Forza Horizon 6 will be releasing on PS5 later this year, and you can add the game to your wishlist on the PlayStation Store to be notified of availability.”
This clarification has caught many by surprise, as prior to the recent rumors, there was a consensus among players that the game had likely been pushed beyond 2026 due to the lack of updates from the developer. Forza Horizon 6 was originally unveiled during the 2025 Tokyo Game Show, almost exactly a year ago. There is speculation that Xbox may announce the PS5 release date at the upcoming TGS 2026, scheduled for September 17-21.
Since its launch in May, Forza Horizon 6 has achieved significant success, selling millions of copies and remaining one of the most-played titles on PC and Xbox. According to reports, it is currently the highest-grossing new release on Steam for 2026, with an estimated revenue of $210.5 million (~£155.74 million) for Valve. Following the success of Forza Horizon 5 on PS5, expectations are high for Horizon 6’s performance on Sony’s platform.
In Eurogamer’s review, Dom Peppiatt hailed the game for building on 14 years of franchise history, calling it the best installment yet and fulfilling the series’ original promise.
