Modders Revive Iconic Characters Ahead of Final Fantasy Resonance Launch

Final Fantasy Resonance is gearing up for its official launch next month, but modders are already utilizing its demo to reintroduce some of the series’ most beloved characters, including pop star Ariana Grande.
This new title is a reconstructed form of the now-defunct mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, serving as a narrative foundation rather than a direct port or remake.
A distinctive feature of Final Fantasy Resonance is the inclusion of “Visions,” which are characters from throughout the series available for summoning in battles. While familiar characters like Cloud, Lightning, and Cecil can assist during combat, modders have expanded the roster to include all the Brave Exvius characters absent from Resonance.
The FFR Vision Studio mod integrates almost 1,300 Brave Exvius characters into the demo. This could potentially allow for the appearance of various guest characters, including Sora from Kingdom Hearts and 2B from Nier Automata.
Brave Exvius was subject to criticism upon release, particularly for its unexpected guest appearances, such as Grande and fellow singer Katy Perry. While initially contentious, some fans have embraced the whimsical nature of these collaborations.
In a statement to Kotaku, producer Keisuke Nakashima commented, “Ariana Grande’s character would not fit within the vibe that we’ve created for Final Fantasy Resonance,” emphasizing the game’s directional focus.
A recent blog post and roadmap indicate that further enhancements to the mod are in progress. The modder leading this effort is looking to improve animations and develop a skill dictionary reminiscent of Brave Exvius abilities, and possibly even introduce side quests to accommodate certain Visions.
