Wardogs Surpasses Marathon in Earnings—Discover the Surprising Forces Behind Its Steam Success!

Date:

Wardogs Surges Past 2.2 Million Sales, Surpassing Major Titles

⚡ Quick Read (30-Sec Summary):

  • Wardogs has sold over 2.2 million copies, outperforming Arc Raiders and Helldivers 2.
  • The game has generated $70 million in revenue and ranks seventh on Steam’s revenue list.
  • Studio CEO Joe Brammer addresses workplace culture controversy following successful launch.

Wardogs has quickly emerged as one of the top PC titles of the year on Steam, achieving impressive sales figures shortly after launch. Within hours, the game surpassed 1 million copies sold, and according to Alinea Analytics analyst Rhys Elliott, it has now exceeded 2.2 million copies to date. In comparison, Arc Raiders managed 1.7 million sales while Helldivers 2 reached 1 million during their launch periods, highlighting Wardogs’ superior sales pace.

While it remains to be seen if Wardogs can sustain this momentum and potentially match or exceed the lifetime performance of Arc Raiders and Helldivers 2, both of these competitors launched at a similar price point of $40 (~£35).

In a comparison with Bungie’s Marathon, another recent $40 release, Wardogs has reportedly generated more revenue, amassing $70 million (~£52.2 million) despite being available on only one platform. This success has secured it the seventh position on Steam’s 2026 revenue rankings for new games. Ports for PlayStation and Xbox are expected but will not be released until 2028.

According to Elliott, “Wardogs hits the modern pricing sweet spot, sitting below the friction point of a $70 triple-A release while capturing that chunky volume of players priced out of premium titles.” His analysis also indicated that the game converted 11 percent of its Steam Wishlists into sales, with 57 percent of these wishlists created in the last month, suggesting a “late, hot hype cycle.”

Despite the game’s success, Bulkhead faced some turbulence in recent days, specifically regarding workplace culture. Studio CEO Joe Brammer made comments concerning company culture and hiring practices during a podcast, which later drew scrutiny. In response to controversy surrounding his remarks, Brammer clarified on X, stating, “I was speaking informally about our culture and the kind of environment we have at Bulkhead, rather than setting out our formal recruitment process.” He emphasized the importance of ensuring a proper fit for prospective employees.
