CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has confirmed to Eurogamer that all existing versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will receive a free upgrade to the Remastered edition today at 11am BST. This upgrade applies to the Complete, Game of the Year, and base versions of the game.
According to CDPR, “all versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt that exist in the world… will all become this new standard version that includes Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine by default.” The Remastered edition will be free for players on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
The announcement also came with extensive patch notes detailing significant changes and enhancements. These updates vary across platforms, with specific notes for PC, PlayStation, and Switch 2. Notably, the game has been upgraded to support Xbox Play Anywhere.
In reviewing the changes, it has been noted that alterations to enemy behaviors include tweaks to “attack patterns, counterattacks, movement, reactions, flight, and the application of effects” for many non-boss monsters. Major updates have also been made to horse riding mechanics for Roach, including new animations and improved collision detection.
Photo mode has received substantial enhancements, allowing for customizable character placements, new poses, and a first-person viewpoint. The update further includes new accessibility options, graphical improvements, and various gameplay refinements.
The Remastered edition extensively overhauls the game’s textures and lighting, aligning its visual presentation with modern gaming standards ahead of its next year’s expansion titled Songs of the Past. Players are encouraged to embark on a new playthrough of the game while they await further content.
