Arc Raiders Sees Player Surge with Frozen Trail Update
- Arc Raiders’ update, Frozen Trail, launched version 2.0, attracting former players.
- Concurrent player count peaked at 185,443 on Steam, the highest since March.
- A dedicated PvE mode is being tested from October 13 to 20, following player requests.
Arc Raiders has successfully re-engaged lapsed players with its recent update, Frozen Trail, marking a significant upgrade to version 2.0. This release is viewed by many players as a re-launch of the extraction shooter, as evidenced by a surge in player numbers.
Following the update, Arc Raiders experienced a sharp increase in concurrent player counts on Steam, reaching a peak of 185,443, according to SteamDB. This figure stands as the highest concurrent count since March and significantly surpasses the game’s typical daily peaks, which usually hover around 40,000.
However, the emergence of these player numbers comes with a caveat. The Frozen Trail update coincided with a free trial period, suggesting that some of the increased player count may consist of newcomers who may not purchase the game.
The Frozen Trail update is comprehensive, affecting nearly all aspects of Arc Raiders. It introduces Pendola Pass, the game’s largest new map, alongside several new Arc enemy units. Additional features include new weapons, a player base known as The Outpost, and a complete overhaul of the skill tree.
This update also establishes a new weapon meta designed to serve both PvE and PvP players, revitalizing previously underutilized weapons and tools.
In a move to address player demands, studio Embark is officially testing a dedicated PvE mode, set to run from October 13 to 20. Whether this trial will lead to a permanent PvE-only mode remains uncertain.
As the free trial concludes today, it remains to be seen if the ongoing PvE test can sustain the increased player activity. The dedicated PvE mode has been among the most requested features for Arc Raiders, suggesting a potential for another spike in player numbers.
