Nintendo has announced that Pikmin 4 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will be released on 12th November, featuring a new gameplay mode called Dandori Academy. This launch date was confirmed during the Pikmin Day Direct presentation held yesterday.
As part of the festivities, it was revealed that a demo for the game will be available for download on the Nintendo eShop starting 2nd November. Players who participate in the demo will have their progress carried over to the full game upon purchase.
The Dandori Academy mode introduces a timed exam feature, allowing players to complete challenges such as the Gargantuan Garden, where they must collect gold nuggets within a set time limit (thanks, Insider Gaming).
This Switch 2 Edition will also include the ability for players to give voice commands to Oatchi, the game’s dog companion. For those who own the original Pikmin 4 on the Nintendo Switch, an upgrade pack will be available for purchase on the eShop.
Before the Pikmin Day Direct, Nintendo indicated there would be no new game announcements. During the event, Shigeru Miyamoto introduced Japanese actress Fuka Koshiba as a new ambassador for the Pikmin series and declared 1st November to be designated as Pikmin Day.
Pikmin 4 initially launched on the Nintendo Switch in July 2023. In addition to Pikmin 4, the Switch 2 Edition is one of two significant Nintendo releases this month, alongside The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, which is scheduled for release on 5th November.
Shigeru Miyamoto, the legendary Nintendo developer known for directing iconic games like Super Mario 64 and producing The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, recently expressed his views on generative AI tools, stating they will not replace human talent in game development.
