Kalshi Secures $1 Billion Funding, Valuing Prediction Market Exchange at $40 Billion
- Kalshi completed a $1 billion funding round, raising its valuation to $40 billion.
- The latest round was co-led by Sequoia Capital and Wellington Management.
- Kalshi plans to expand beyond prediction markets into leveraged event contracts and perpetual futures.
Kalshi has announced the successful completion of a $1 billion funding round, elevating its valuation to $40 billion. This comes on the heels of a previous funding round in May, which valued the company at $22 billion. The most recent financing round was co-led by Sequoia Capital and Wellington Management.
Since the May funding, Kalshi has experienced significant growth in its prediction markets, fueled by major events such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the NFL season. These events have driven robust activity in combo contracts and increased trading in election markets leading up to the U.S. midterm elections.
However, Kalshi has also encountered legal challenges concerning its sports offerings. Two U.S. appeals courts ruled in August and September that states have the authority to regulate sports-related event contracts. Kalshi and other platforms assert that the federal government should have jurisdiction. The ongoing dispute may reach the Supreme Court, as a third appeals court has previously sided with the view favoring federal oversight.
In late May, Kalshi expanded its offerings beyond prediction markets by introducing perpetual futures, making it the first exchange to launch this popular crypto trade in the U.S. The company indicated that predictions markets are merely the beginning, aiming to broaden its scope as a financial exchange.
Kalshi intends to utilize the newly raised funds to develop leveraged event contracts and perpetual futures linked to individual stocks, as well as markets related to computing prices. Additionally, the company focuses on enhancing its institutional business, having collaborated with 500 institutional entities, which account for 25% of its trading volume, excluding market makers.
Kalshi’s growth trajectory has been rapid; in October 2025, the company’s valuation stood at just $5 billion. CEO Tarek Mansour mentioned in June during an appearance on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” that the company is contemplating an initial public offering, though he indicated that it would not occur until 2027, stating, “A company of our financial profile with the rate of growth that we’re seeing, that sort of conversation has to happen.”
Disclosure: CNBC and Kalshi have a commercial relationship that includes customer acquisition and a minority investment.
