Netflix Sets August 27 Global Streaming Date for Gintama: The Movie 2026: Yoshiwara in Flames!
Get ready to head back to the red-light district, because Netflix has officially announced that Gintama: The Movie 2026: Yoshiwara in Flames (Shin-Gekijōban Gintama: Yoshiwara Daienjō) will begin streaming worldwide starting on August 27. Based on Hideaki Sorachi’s iconic manga, the brand-new compilation film originally hit Japanese theaters on February 13, making a massive splash by opening at #2 and pulling in a staggering 405,617,328 yen (approximately US$2.64 million) from 262,700 ticket sales in its first three days alone.
All-New Animation, Fresh Faces, and Returning Creative Heavyweights
Covering the fan-favorite anime episodes 139-146, this theatrical event is much more than just a recap. The film packs brand-new animated scenes and introduces surprise characters who didn’t appear in the original arc, including the anime-original character Enkaku—Hōsen’s close aide—voiced by Kappei Yamaguchi. Helmed by director Naoya Ando at BN Pictures with a script by Taku Kishimoto and supervision by Yōichi Fujita, the production also features character designs and chief animation direction by Shinji Takeuchi, alongside an explosive theme song titled “Sanzen” (Sparkling) performed by the rock band SUPER BEAVER.
