The series thrusts viewers into a brutal conflict between malicious tengu—mythological Japanese demons known for their red faces and long noses—and the elite Tōbatsushi, or “sword penal officers,” dedicated to slaying them. The plot follows Akari Hinomiya, a boy raised on an island after being imbued with the spirit of Hajun, a terrifying great demon who once threatened the globe. As Akari gathers his comrades and takes up the blade, he must master the uncontrollable, dark power lurking within himself to face down his ultimate, destined foe.
