Laid-Back Camp and mono Creator Afro Goes on Indefinite Hiatus Due to Health Struggles
Manga creator Afro is stepping away from the drawing board to prioritize their health. Editorial teams at Houbunsha’s Manga Time Kirara and the Comic Fuz website announced on Monday that the popular creator’s health has deteriorated due to the immense physical and mental stress of simultaneously serializing two major manga. As a result, both the beloved slice-of-life favorite Laid-Back Camp and the four-panel series mono have been placed on immediate hiatus, with return dates to be determined by their respective editorial departments.
A Double Hit for Slice-of-Life Fans as Both Hit Series Pause
The sudden suspension halts two major fixtures of the modern anime and manga landscape. Afro launched Laid-Back Camp (Yurucamp) in 2015 before shifting it to the Comic Fuz web platform in 2019, building a massive multimedia franchise that spans four television anime seasons—with a fourth slated for 2027—alongside theatrical films, live-action adaptations, and English releases via Yen Press. Meanwhile, Afro’s newer four-panel hit mono, which debuted in 2017 and recently inspired an April 2025 television anime, will also halt publication while the author recovers. Both editorial teams have asked fans for their patience and support as Afro takes the necessary time to heal.
