How I Met Your Mother’s Josh Radnor and Cristin Milioti Share Emotional Revelations About the Show’s Conclusion
In a recent interview following the How I Met Your Mother finale in 2014, Josh Radnor, who played Ted Mosby, revealed his awareness of a significant plot twist regarding his character’s love interest, the mother. Despite being informed early in the series that he would ultimately lose the mother, Radnor expressed his commitment to the storyline. “They had mentioned to me the twist about the mother in the first season, and I kind of put it out of my head,” he told Vulture. He also shared his concerns about continuing that narrative, especially after the audience’s affection for Cristin Milioti, who played the mother. Radnor inquired with the show’s creators about whether they would still pursue that arc, and they confirmed it would remain part of the story.
Meanwhile, during a cast and crew Christmas party, Milioti learned about her character’s fate firsthand. While conversing with series co-creator Carter Bays, she joked about the ending, asking, “What, do I die?” Bays responded, “Do you want to know?” to which she replied affirmatively. As a result, she received confirmation of her character’s tragic ending, which left her emotionally affected. “I sat there sobbing,” she recounted. Following the revelation, Bays reached out to Milioti via email, apologizing for his delivery of the distressing news, noting, “I’m so sorry I told you that way, you seemed really upset.”
