Patrick Clancy Testifies About Lindsay Clancy’s Mental Health Struggles During Murder Trial

Patrick Clancy, the ex-husband of Lindsay Clancy, was the first witness to testify in her murder trial, which commenced on July 27 at Plymouth Superior Court. Lindsay Clancy, a 35-year-old former nurse, is accused of killing their three children: Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and Callan, 8 months. While she has admitted to the acts, she has pleaded not guilty to murder, claiming her actions were a result of postpartum psychosis.

During his testimony, Patrick Clancy recounted his ex-wife’s ongoing mental health issues, noting that she had struggled following the birth of their son Callan in May 2023. He indicated that Lindsay had also sought mental health treatment after the birth of Dawson in 2019, although he stated that her treatment was short-lived.

Patrick described Lindsay’s significant decline in mental health as a “big spiral” starting in December 2023, coinciding with a new medication prescribed to her in September. According to his testimony, Lindsay confided that she experienced “intrusive thoughts” about harming both herself and their children. Despite these revelations, Patrick expressed he was not concerned for the children’s safety, as he felt Lindsay had “no intention” of following through on those thoughts.

On December 31, Lindsay Clancy visited the emergency room at Massachusetts General Hospital due to ongoing suicidal thoughts. Following her admission to a psychiatric facility, she was discharged on January 5, at which point Patrick observed that she appeared “much better.”
