Lancashire’s Stunning Upset Over Durham: You Won’t Believe What Happened in the 1st Quarter Final!

Date:

Durham Defeats Lancashire by 162 Runs in Metro Bank One-Day Cup Eliminator

Durham advanced to the semi-finals of the Metro Bank One-Day Cup after a dominant 162-run victory over Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford. The win sets up a clash against Middlesex on Sunday at Radlett.

Batting first, Durham set an imposing target of 349 runs. Their innings began briskly, reaching 56 without loss within the first ten overs. However, they soon faced some setbacks, losing Alex Lees, bowled by Arav Shetty for 29, and Ben McKinney, who was caught at deep mid-off after scoring 35. Will Rhodes added 25 before being dismissed off a catch at mid-on.

The turning point came with a strong partnership between Luke Robinson and David Bedingham, who added 149 runs in just 16.1 overs. Robinson scored 76 runs before being caught off Tom Bailey, while Bedingham completed his century, ending with 104 runs from 87 balls. Late contributions from Colin Ackermann and Kasey Aldridge helped lift Durham to their final total of 349, with Bailey being the standout bowler for Lancashire, taking 2 for 45.

In response, Lancashire struggled against Durham’s well-disciplined bowling attack. Only Joe Moores provided significant resistance, scoring 51 runs from 42 balls, punctuated by four sixes. However, after Harry Singh was dismissed for 11 and Keaton Jennings for 20, Lancashire found themselves in a dire position at 83 for four. A brief partnership of 59 runs between Moores and Rocky Flintoff, who scored 22, offered some hope.

Despite Moores’ efforts, the innings fell apart as Lancashire lost four wickets for just 17 runs. Shaq Ghafari was particularly effective, taking 4 wickets for 36 runs in 5.1 overs, including the final blow that claimed Moores’ wicket. The team’s collapse culminated when Tom Bailey was caught out, leaving Lancashire all out for 187 with 13.5 overs remaining.
