Developer Embark Studios is teaming up with Chernin Entertainment to produce film and television adaptations of the popular video games Arc Raiders and The Finals. According to Variety, several production companies vied for the rights, but Chernin emerged victorious shortly after achieving box office success with its horror film, Backrooms.
The partnership aims to “ensure the creativity that defines both of these properties extends into all-new formats,” as stated by Patrick Söderlund, CEO of Embark Studios. He emphasized that this agreement is a significant step towards evolving both series into “deeply integrated transmedia experiences.”
David Ready, Chernin’s film president, expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting that Nexon and Embark have crafted “visually stunning, atmospheric worlds that contain countless stories to tell.” Details regarding directors, writers, or cast members for these adaptations have yet to be revealed.
The announcements come amid a surge of video game adaptations, with recent deals such as Sega collaborating with Netflix on projects based on Sonic The Hedgehog, Crazy Taxi, and the upcoming Stranger Than Heaven.
With a variety of game-to-film and game-to-show projects on the horizon, excitement surrounds the potential for an Arc Raiders adaptation. The game boasts a unique extraction shooter experience, featuring imposing robotic adversaries that could translate into gripping cinematic encounters.
Since its release a year ago, Arc Raiders has achieved over 16 million sales. To further engage players, a free trial is scheduled from October 8th to 12th, coinciding with the game’s most significant update to date, Frozen Trails. Additionally, a PvE test is set for October 13th to accommodate players exploring its expansive environments.
