Bloodborne Sales Surge: Over 251,000 Copies Sold This Year
- Bloodborne has sold over 251,000 copies in 2023, bringing total sales to approximately 10.4 million.
- More than 500,000 players engaged with Bloodborne in October via PlayStation Plus.
- Former Bluepoint Games sought to remake Bloodborne, but FromSoftware declined the offer.
Bloodborne, the Lovecraftian action-RPG developed by FromSoftware, has reportedly sold more than 251,000 copies in the current year. This insight was shared by Rhys Elliott, head of market analytics at Alinea Analytics, in a post on X. The sales bring the game’s total to an estimated 10.4 million copies sold, generating revenue of around $317 million (approximately £236 million).
Additionally, Elliott noted that in October alone, over half a million people played Bloodborne through PlayStation Plus. Among these players, 12 percent also engaged with Elden Ring, 6 percent with Dark Souls 3, and 5 percent with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. “There’s a cohort of gamers who are always bouncing between different FromSoftware games,” Elliott remarked. “Can’t blame them, especially with this one.”
As a PlayStation exclusive, Bloodborne has remained on the PS4 despite persistent requests from fans for ports and remasters. While the game can be played on PS5 due to backward compatibility, it offers little in terms of enhancements, mainly achieving smoother frame pacing without substantial upgrades.
Before the closure of Bluepoint Games, the studio reportedly pitched a remake of Bloodborne, which was ultimately declined by original developer FromSoftware. Former Sony Interactive Entertainment President Shuhei Yoshida indicated that Bloodborne holds a significant place in the heart of director Hidetaka Miyazaki. Yoshida speculated that the absence of a remake is due to Miyazaki’s desire to undertake the project himself, yet his busy schedule prevents him from doing so. “Miyazaki-san really, really loved Bloodborne, what he created,” Yoshida stated. “So I think he is interested but he’s so successful and he’s so busy, so he cannot do it himself, and he doesn’t want anyone else to touch it.”
