Dynasty Warriors Producer Prioritizes New Games Over Remasters

⚡ Quick Read (30-Sec Summary):

  • Tomohiko Sho, producer of Dynasty Warriors, prefers creating new games over remasters.
  • Future remasters will depend on the performance of the recently launched Dynasty Warriors 3 Complete Edition Remastered.
  • Sho expresses a desire to delegate potential remaster work to his team while focusing on new projects.

Tomohiko Sho, the producer behind the Dynasty Warriors franchise, has expressed a strong preference for developing new games rather than working on remasters of existing titles. While he has not completely dismissed the idea of future remasters, he made it clear during an interview with 4Gamer that he would not be volunteering for such projects.

Sho’s comments follow the launch of Dynasty Warriors 3 Complete Edition Remastered on platforms including Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. He indicated that whether the series sees another remaster will largely depend on the commercial success of this recent release. He added that he personally prefers not to take on the remastering work.

Regarding the possibility of remastering titles unavailable on Steam, Sho stated, “I can’t say anything at the moment… but it’s not impossible that we’ll remaster titles that aren’t available on Steam.” However, he emphasized his reluctance by stating, “To be honest, I don’t want to do it.” Sho reflected on his career, noting that at fifty, he is increasingly conscious of how many more games he can create before retirement, preferring to focus on new projects or sequels.

Despite his personal feelings towards remastering, Sho acknowledged the expectations of fans who desire more remastered titles. He suggested that he may delegate this work to other members of his team while he continues to concentrate on developing new games and sequels.

The recently released Dynasty Warriors 3 Complete Edition Remastered utilizes Unreal Engine 5 and serves as an updated version of the original PlayStation 2 game, coinciding with the franchise’s 25th anniversary. The title has garnered ‘Very Positive’ feedback based on current Steam reviews.
