Final Fantasy 7’s Game Director Drops a Bombshell: Why Will the Reveal Hit a Whopping 200GB?

Date:

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Expected to Be 200GB, Launching April 8, 2027

⚡ Quick Read (30-Sec Summary):

  • Final Fantasy 7 Revelation set for release on April 8, 2027.
  • Director Naoki Hamaguchi indicates the game may reach around 200GB in size, affecting launch format.
  • Two DLCs are planned to expand on characters Vincent and Sephiroth after the game’s launch.

With a release date of April 8, 2027, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the concluding chapter of the FF7 Remake trilogy, is stirring conversations around its substantial size. Director Naoki Hamaguchi is addressing concerns about the game’s scale and quality as he faces questions regarding the extensive side activities it will offer.

In a recent interview with Video Games Chronicle, Hamaguchi stated that he is “not worried about the scale” of the game. He clarified that it will not be available entirely on-disc at launch, as the expected file size may reach a staggering 200GB. “Things are still getting worked out, but it’s probably going to be around 200GB of game,” Hamaguchi said. He acknowledged diverse opinions on this topic but emphasized the need to push the limits of current hardware.

The prior installment, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, has file sizes of 91GB on the Nintendo Switch 2, 145GB on PlayStation 5, 169GB on Xbox Series, and 155GB on PC. Therefore, depending on the platform, Revelation could potentially be up to twice the size of its predecessor.

Following its release, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will also include two additional DLC packages, similar in concept to the previous Intermission DLC. “It’s best to imagine the DLC like what we did with Intermission: digging deeper into the characters of Vincent and Sephiroth,” Hamaguchi explained. He refrained from revealing whether these stories unfold in the past or present, but expressed excitement for upcoming disclosures.

As the gaming community contemplates game length, the dialogue continues, especially in light of lengthy titles like Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave. Many gamers, particularly adults balancing lives and responsibilities, find titles exceeding 100 hours of playtime daunting.

As anticipation builds for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, players and critics alike are eager to see how the game leverages its ambitious open-world design to deliver a compelling conclusion to the trilogy.
