YouTuber Imagines GTA-Style Map of London
- YouTuber CityEd created a GTA-style map of London, reimagining place names.
- The map reflects Rockstar Games’ naming conventions and satirical style.
- GTA 6 is set to release in under two months with an expansive new map.
YouTuber CityEd has reimagined London within the Grand Theft Auto universe, providing a GTA-style map that transforms real-world locations into fictional counterparts. CityEd revealed their work on Patreon, detailing how iconic places were renamed in the classic GTA style.
For instance, Kings Cross is referred to as ‘Dukes Cross’, Angel becomes ‘Saint’, and the entire city is dubbed ‘Trafalgar’. CityEd’s project aims to apply Rockstar Games’ well-known naming conventions, which often include satire and exaggerated landmarks, using previous GTA titles as references.
CityEd explained that while the real-life cities and locations serve as a basis for GTA maps, Rockstar typically engages in a fun process of creating fictional names based on historical or cultural associations with those places.
It’s noteworthy that Rockstar’s last foray into the English capital, the 1999 GTA: London mission pack, was released before the developer adopted more playful naming conventions, requiring CityEd to start from the ground up for this map.
CityEd provided further insight into their creative process in a more detailed 30-minute video, outlining how they incorporated the history of various locations into their version of London.
Fans can also look forward to Grand Theft Auto 6, which is set to launch in under two months. The upcoming installment is expected to feature a map large enough to accommodate at least two copies of GTA 5, although there is still uncertainty about the inclusion of notable Florida locations.
