Konami Explores New Projects for Silent Hill Franchise After Initial Releases
- Konami’s Motoi Okamoto confirms plans for “second and third waves” of Silent Hill games.
- Silent Hill: Townfall, which is already available, has received positive feedback.
- Bloober Team is developing a remake of the original Silent Hill, set to be announced in June 2025.
Silent Hill producer Motoi Okamoto announced that Konami is considering multiple projects following the release of their new Silent Hill games. In a discussion with Famitsu, he revealed that the company is already planning for what comes after their initial set of titles, implying the potential for additional “second and third waves” of releases.
Okamoto expressed relief at the successful launches of the three titles previously announced, stating, “They’ve also received high praise, and we are satisfied with it.” He emphasized that the initial success brought them great relief, but hinted that the company is far from done, saying, “We must think of the second and third waves. We can’t share specific details, but we’re currently looking at a number of projects.”
Okamoto also mentioned the challenges faced in convincing Konami executives about the franchise’s revival, asserting that “one remake is not enough.” He remarked, “As a producer, I cannot let it end only with that,” highlighting concerns over negative perceptions surrounding potential cancellations if only one title were released.
Silent Hill: Townfall is currently available and has earned a four out of five-star rating in Eurogamer’s reviews, which stated, “Silent Hill: Townfall is, though, an often phenomenal ride; reverent to its roots, rich with ideas, and yes, properly unnerving too.” The review noted a symmetry between Silent Hill and Resident Evil, marking significant achievements for both franchises within the same year.
The franchise experienced a resurgence in 2022 when Konami announced multiple projects, including Silent Hill 2 Remake, Silent Hill f, Silent Hill: Townfall, Silent Hill Ascension, and the film Return to Silent Hill, followed by the surprise release of Silent Hill: The Short Message. Okamoto emphasized that the key to reviving Silent Hill lies in “cherishing” a “strong psychological horror narrative.” He noted that maintaining this core allows them to take creative liberties with gameplay.
Bloober Team, known for the Silent Hill 2 remake, is currently working on a remake of the original Silent Hill, with an announcement from Konami expected in June 2025.
