IO Interactive Delays Release of 007 First Light for Switch 2 to March 2027

IO Interactive has officially announced a delay in the release of 007 First Light for the Nintendo Switch 2. Initially expected this summer, the release date has been rescheduled to March 2027.
According to IOI, the additional time will be used to refine the game and optimize its performance on the Switch 2. In a post on X, the company expressed appreciation for the enthusiasm shown by fans: “We know many of you have been looking forward to experiencing Bond’s reimagined origin story on Nintendo Switch 2, and we greatly appreciate your enthusiasm.”
The announcement comes as a surprise since 007 First Light was recently showcased at Gamescom, where it was playable on Switch 2. The studio is also set to present the same demo at the Tokyo Game Show this week, indicating that development has been progressing smoothly.
Prior to this delay announcement, IOI had not confirmed any specific release dates beyond its intention to launch the game in the summer. A date of September 16 had briefly appeared on Amazon Japan in late July, suggesting high expectations for the title’s release.
“We were thrilled by the positive feedback on 007 First Light at Gamescom, and it’s a great sign of the progress being made across the whole game as we head toward launch,” the company continued in its statement. “We will share further updates as soon as we are ready. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support.”
Having been released in May, 007 First Light has sold over 4 million copies across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Eurogamer’s Rick Lane praised the game for its focus on action and spectacle, reinforcing IOI’s capacity to create a modern James Bond experience.
