Xbox CEO Asha Sharma shared on Twitter/X that Minecraft continues to attract over 300,000 new players every day, despite its 17-year history and 425 million copies sold. “Minecraft is still finding new players,” she emphasized.
During Minecraft Live, Sharma announced significant updates, including Dungeons II and “our first new dimension in more than 14 years,” as well as new tools for creators and a version of Minecraft for the Nintendo Switch 2.

Sharma expressed enthusiasm for Minecraft’s ongoing appeal, stating, “I love that Minecraft is still finding new players and giving longtime ones new things to discover.”
The port for Minecraft on Nintendo Switch 2 was first hinted at through an ESRB rating in June and was eventually confirmed in a Nintendo Direct showcase shortly afterward. The official release date for this version is set for October 27, 2026.
Existing Switch 1 owners will be able to upgrade to the Switch 2 version; however, this upgrade does not appear to be free. This trend of requiring paid upgrades for Switch 2 games has been seen with titles like Zelda, Kirby, and Metroid Prime 4, while some developers, such as Square Enix, do not offer upgrade paths at all.
In related news, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella recently commended the “streamlining” efforts within the Xbox division, led by Asha Sharma, following recent layoffs in the team.
