Today marks the arrival of No Man’s Sky on iPhone and iPad, expanding its compatibility to more devices. Alongside this launch, developer Hello Games has released the Forsaken update, which infuses the exploratory space simulation with seasonal Halloween elements.
The Forsaken update follows the game’s recent tenth anniversary update and its limited-time expedition. This Halloween, players will venture into what Hello Games dubs the “darker side of the universe,” where mysterious traders are on the hunt for unusual samples, including haunted technology and biological anomalies. This exploration leads players to the game’s unsettling locations, such as derelict hulks, abandoned freighters, and infested outposts.
In exchange for their efforts, players can obtain new seasonal shipbuilding options that embrace a “creepy and organic” aesthetic. This includes biomechanical corvette modules, new cockpits, and a fresh interior set inspired by distant galaxies. Additionally, players will have access to new weapon and space suit styles, such as the larva tank helmet and the wriggling grub cannon multi-tool. Though the specifics on the duration of these seasonal items remain unclear, there are indications of “new features and gameplay” that may be more permanent.
The update introduces new postal missions, allowing players to “become a delivery driver across the galaxy.” Furthermore, it features various user interface enhancements, including a radial menu for weapon selection, a minimal HUD mode, and extensive accessibility improvements. The addition of “seamless warping” enables players to lock onto the brightest star and travel directly there without using the galactic map.
The Forsaken update is now accessible on multiple platforms, including Mac, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch (versions 1 & 2), Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, VR, and, of course, iPhone and iPad. The game accommodates devices like the iPhone 11 and above, as well as the 3rd Generation iPad Air and higher. The initial segment of No Man’s Sky can be played for free, with mobile players benefiting from custom touch controls, access to all previously released updates, and a download size of 4GB.
