Palworld, a survival crafting game featuring animals reminiscent of Pokémon, is currently involved in a legal dispute with Nintendo regarding alleged patent infringement. Despite the ongoing lawsuit, developer Pocketpair is enthusiastic about the possibility of launching the game on the anticipated Switch 2 console.
In an interview with VGC, Pocketpair CEO Takuru Mizobe stated that he “of course” wishes to bring the game to Nintendo’s new platform. He praised the Switch 2 as an “amazing platform,” highlighting its significance not only for global gaming but particularly for the Japanese gaming industry.
Mizobe further elaborated, “If there’s ever a future where we have the opportunity to discuss or consider bringing Palworld to the Switch platform in some way, then we’d love to have those conversations.”
Previously, Mizobe mentioned the challenges of adapting Palworld for the original Switch due to its demanding requirements. However, he noted that these challenges might be mitigated if the Switch 2 possesses sufficient hardware capabilities, although specific specifications have yet to be disclosed. A year later, Pocketpair communications director John Buckley told IGN that creating a Switch 2 version could be feasible, contingent on the console’s performance capacity.
However, until the legal issues between Pocketpair and Nintendo are resolved, a Switch 2 release remains uncertain. A preliminary view from the Tokyo District Court is expected on 9th November.
Since its launch in 2024, Palworld has sold over 30 million copies and saw a significant uptick in popularity with July’s 1.0 update, attracting nearly 1 million concurrent players on Steam.
