Phantom Blade Zero Pre-loads Now Available with Significant Storage Requirements

Pre-loads are live for Phantom Blade Zero, the debut action game from Chinese developer S-Game. With the launch of the pre-load, the studio has also disclosed the final PC system requirements, specifically regarding storage capacity.
Once installed, Phantom Blade Zero will take up a substantial 145GB of storage on your device. However, to initiate the pre-load, players will need more than double that—300GB—to facilitate the decryption and decompression processes. In a Steam blog post, the developer noted that “temporary files and the complete game files must coexist during the unlock process.” Players will regain the extra space once installation is completed.
The requirement for substantial storage space during pre-loading is not unusual, but the already large install size of Phantom Blade Zero makes this need for additional space particularly noteworthy. The game also necessitates an SSD, which may pose challenges for some players due to current global storage shortages.
Despite the high storage requirements, they are unlikely to dissuade potential buyers. Estimates suggest that Phantom Blade Zero is positioned to be one of the year’s biggest hits, with sales exceeding 500,000 copies on Steam alone.
In a review by Eurogamer, Emma Kent expressed criticism regarding the game’s boss fights and noted a general lack of polish that detracted from its otherwise fluid and cinematic kung fu-style action.
