Despite the promise of additional reveals, the question of whether DMZ will feature a PvE-only playlist remains unanswered. The demand for dedicated PvE content is common in extraction shooters, as illustrated by titles such as Arc Raiders, Bungie’s Marathon, and Escape from Tarkov. Presently, Infinity Ward has not provided clarity on this matter, though recent trailers have led some players to speculate.
The speculation began with episode seven of From the Ward, a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the studio, which focused heavily on DMZ gameplay. At approximately 7:34 into the episode, viewers notice a deployment screen featuring four options. While three were elaborated on with descriptions, the “Single Squad Mission” option lacked any details.
This omission prompted enthusiasm among players anticipating confirmation of a PvE mode. The terminology suggests that the game mode could be restricted to a single squad, implying it might require an invite for participation.
Numerous players took to Reddit and X to explore the implications of this label, with some even tagging the official Call of Duty account. While many players interpreted “Single Squad” as a sign of a potential PvE mode, others proposed alternative interpretations.
One Reddit user expressed, “Could be a solely PvE mode for DMZ. Would be great if true as I’d rather not have to spend however long getting decent gear just to get wiped by a super.”
Conversely, some players theorize that “Single Squad” may relate to DMZ’s Lieutenant Hunts, a high-stakes challenge where defeated Lieutenants drop Dog Tags that players must extract safely. The critique here is that the term might imply that only one tag can be extracted by a single squad or player. Nevertheless, with no official clarification available, players are left to draw their own conclusions.
Just a day later, an official trailer titled The DMZ Dynamic Ops trailer was released, highlighting one of the earlier mentioned options. Notably, this trailer did not feature the “Single Squad” option during the deployment screen reveal.
This discrepancy might indicate that the trailers showcase different builds of Modern Warfare 4. It is plausible that an earlier version of the game featured the “Single Squad” option, which could have been removed or slated for a later update.
Additionally, the absence of players at higher levels in the “From the Ward” video suggests that “Single Squad” might be an introductory feature meant to assist new players. This approach mirrors practices in other multiplayer games that provide low-pressure modes for newcomers.
The ongoing discourse surrounding the potential PvE mode underscores player interest in such features.
