- Upcoming edition will feature visual improvements and new gameplay enhancements.
Shenmue 3: Enhanced Edition has been postponed to early 2027, as announced by publisher Inin Games, who emphasized the goal of ensuring everything is executed correctly. The delay was officially communicated in a newsletter where Inin acknowledged the anticipation for Ryo’s first appearance on multiple modern consoles.
Originally slated for release in “Q4” of this year, Inin stated, “We’ll have more details to share with you soon and are looking forward to this release in early 2027!” The game is set to be available on PC, PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S.
The Enhanced Edition aims to deliver graphical enhancements over the original 2019 release by Ys Net, along with various quality-of-life improvements and performance enhancements enabled by current-generation hardware. Features may include DLSS/FSR support, increased NPC density in Niaowu, and a classic camera mode influenced by earlier entries in the series.
First revealed in August 2025, this Enhanced Edition offers a renewed opportunity for the contentious third installment in the renowned Dreamcast franchise. Despite its shortcomings, Martin Robinson, the former editor-in-chief of Eurogamer and a dedicated Shenmue fan, praised Shenmue 3 as “a bewitching time capsule that transports us to late 80s China, and to turn-of-the-century video games.”
