The Witcher 3: Remastered Edition Sparks Record Player Engagement
- The Witcher 3’s Remastered edition sees a peak of nearly 120,000 concurrent players on Steam.
- This surpasses previous records of 103,000 players in January 2020 and 92,000 at launch in 2015.
- The update enhances gameplay and visuals, is free for existing owners, and sets the stage for the upcoming expansion, Songs of the Past.
The recently launched Remastered edition of The Witcher 3 has significantly revived interest in the 11-year-old role-playing game, currently reaching its highest concurrent player count on Steam to date.
At this moment, nearly 120,000 players are engaged with The Witcher 3 on Steam, positioning it as the ninth most-played game on the PC platform. This figure does not account for sales on platforms such as GOG and the Epic Games Store, nor does it include players on console platforms like PlayStation, Switch 2, and Xbox.
According to SteamDB, this concurrent player count surpasses the game’s initial launch record of 92,000 in 2015 and the previous peak of 103,000 in January 2020, coinciding with the popularity of Netflix’s The Witcher series. The game saw another spike in players during December 2022, reaching 89,000 with the release of the next-gen update.
With a substantial player base of 65 million, the game’s robust community highlights CD Projekt Red’s ongoing influence in the gaming market. As players in America begin to download the update, further increases in player numbers are anticipated.
The Remastered edition offers a variety of enhancements to gameplay and visuals; however, reviews indicate that the modifications may not be as transformative as some players might expect, as it largely retains the core experience of the original game.
Importantly, this Remastered update is available at no additional cost to owners of any version of The Witcher 3, and the existing expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, are included for free. This initiative exemplifies CD Projekt Red’s dedication to supporting its games and builds anticipation for the upcoming expansion, Songs of the Past, slated for next year.
