The Witcher 3 Sets New Concurrent Player Record Following Remastered Upgrade
- The Witcher 3 reached a new record of 137,724 concurrent players on Steam.
- Player engagement surged after the recent Remastered edition release, with 2.4 million daily active users reported.
- The game sold 130,000 copies in a single day, significantly boosting lifetime sales to over 66 million copies.
The Witcher 3 continues to see a surge in player numbers following the release of its Remastered edition last week. This influx includes both returning players and new purchases of the game.
On Sunday, October 4, at 4 PM BST, according to SteamDB, The Witcher 3 set a new concurrent player record of 137,724, marking an increase of nearly 20,000 from its previous high of 120,000 players.
For context, The Witcher 3 initially attracted 92,000 concurrent players at its 2015 launch and previously peaked at 103,000 in January 2020, coinciding with the popularity of The Witcher Netflix series. This recent spike bodes well for CD Projekt Red as they prepare for the upcoming expansion, Songs of the Past, expected next year.
These concurrent player numbers do not account for those on consoles like PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch, suggesting that overall player counts are even higher. Alinea Analytics analyst Rhys Elliott noted that, a day after the Remastered edition’s release, The Witcher 3 peaked at 2.4 million daily active users across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, excluding Switch.
Elliott also highlighted that The Witcher 3 sold 130,000 copies on those platforms on September 30, the highest daily sales since a $3.99 Steam discount back in summer 2024. The game is currently priced at $24.99, generating nearly $3 million in revenue in that single day.
As a result, Elliott confirmed that the lifetime sales of The Witcher 3 have surpassed 66 million copies. He remarked, “What a run.”
The Witcher 3 – Remastered represents a comprehensive free upgrade that modernizes graphics, improves animations, and revamps the skill tree. While the update has been largely well-received, players have reported some initial issues with lighting and other technical aspects, which CD Projekt Red is addressing through ongoing hotfixes.
