Calendly Launches AI-Powered Note-Taking Product
Calendly, recognized for its scheduling software, has unveiled its entry into the competitive note-taking market, aiming to automate productivity tasks via AI-generated action items from meeting transcripts. This product joins a growing list of similar tools targeting workplace efficiency.
Calendly’s note-taking feature records audio and video during meetings, transcribes the content, and can produce summaries, action items, and draft follow-up emails. Additionally, the company is experimenting with a feature resembling that of Granola that utilizes system audio for transcribing meetings.
The company is also set to introduce an AI assistant named Callie, which will leverage its existing scheduling system to facilitate meeting arrangements, check participant availability, and recall context from prior discussions. Earlier this year, meeting notetaking startup Read AI launched a comparable email-based assistant.
CEO Tope Awotona emphasized the goal of streamlining workflows for primary users, such as sales and marketing professionals, whose schedules are often filled with meetings. Despite the crowded market, which includes apps like Granola, Fireflies, Read AI, Otter, and Fathom, as well as productivity platforms like Notion, ClickUp, and Wispr, Awotona sees a significant opportunity in automating post-meeting tasks.
“There’s a litany of notetakers, and all of them do a great job of recording and transcribing notes. But a lot of work happens after the meetings. And we think that really that’s where the opportunity for our note-takers to be efficient,” he stated.
In light of concerns regarding privacy violations faced by some competitors like Otter and Granola, Calendly’s note-taker will alert users that recordings are being made. The tool will announce its presence in the meeting chat, allowing participants to request its exit from the conversation. It will also notify attendees beforehand that the meeting will be recorded, thanks to its integration with Calendly’s scheduling system.
