Ireland Women’s Cricket Team Names Squad for ODI Series Against England

Georgina Dempsey, Lara McBride, and Alice Tector have been selected for the 14-member squad representing the Ireland women’s cricket team in their upcoming three-match ODI series against England. Gaby Lewis will continue to serve as captain of the team, which will be missing Alana Dalzell, Sarah Forbes, and Aimee Maguire due to injuries sustained during the recent home series against the West Indies.

A standout return is Arlene Kerry, who was sidelined during the West Indies series due to injury despite being previously named in the squad. Tector has also successfully recovered from her injury. Both Dempsey and Tector are classified as allrounders, while McBride is an offspinner. The trio recently participated in the Women’s Super 50 Series, contributing to the domestic one-day competition.

The selected players are set to feature in a warm-up match against the ECB Development XI in Leicester on August 29, prior to the ODI series that begins on September 1 in Leicester, followed by matches on September 3 in Derby and September 6 in Worcester.

This series marks Ireland’s second engagement in the new Women’s Championship, which serves as the pathway to qualification for the next ODI World Cup set to take place in 2029. The Irish team will face an England side led by spinner Charlie Dean in the absence of their regular captain, Nat Sciver-Brunt, who is recovering from a calf injury. England has also included three uncapped players: Grace Potts, Kira Chathli, and Charis Pavely.
