Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala Diagnosed with Treatable Absence Seizures Following Collapses

Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has publicly disclosed that he is suffering from brief, temporary, yet treatable absence seizures. This diagnosis comes after he collapsed on the pitch for the second time in just four days, the latest incident occurring during a friendly match against Heidenheim on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old Germany international experienced the seizure shortly after coming on as a substitute in the second half. Players from both teams surrounded him as he received medical assistance before being escorted off the field. Musiala’s first collapse took place on Saturday during a friendly against RB Leipzig, where he reportedly left the pitch on his own but appeared disoriented.

In an Instagram post addressing the situation, Musiala expressed gratitude for the concern shown by fans and clarified, “I have been diagnosed with brief, temporary—but treatable—absence seizures resulting from a neurological dysfunction. These can lead to the kind of incidents seen recently, such as during the match against Leipzig or the game in Heidenheim.” He reassured followers, stating that while these incidents may appear concerning, they have become part of his normal life. “I am receiving excellent medical care and remain very optimistic,” he added.

Following the incident against Heidenheim, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl confirmed that they were aware of Musiala’s condition and that he would soon provide further details. “We knew about it, and we are aware of the situation,” Eberl stated post-match.

Musiala emphasized that there is no significant health risk involved and reiterated his commitment to continuing to pursue football. He mentioned, “In close consultation with the experts, it was my personal wish to face this challenge; with the medical clearance of the neurologists, I want to continue doing what helps my recovery most: simply living my life and pursuing my passion for playing football.” He concluded by sharing his desire for privacy regarding his situation, communicating primarily with a close circle, the club, and medical professionals.

Previously, Musiala sustained a broken left leg during a match against Paris Saint-Germain in last summer’s Club World Cup and made his return to action in the Bundesliga at the start of 2026. He played a vital role for Germany during the 2026 World Cup, where the team was unexpectedly knocked out in the round of 32 by Paraguay. Looking ahead, Bayern Munich is set to face Borussia Dortmund in the German Supercup on Saturday, marking the traditional season opener.
