Djed Spence Arrives in Italy to Finalize Move to Inter Milan
Tottenham Hotspur defender Djed Spence arrived in Italy on Friday morning as he prepares to complete his transfer to Inter Milan. Following a commendable performance with the England national team at the 2026 World Cup, where England secured third place, Spence is seeking a new challenge amid limited opportunities at Spurs.
Spence’s path to Inter Milan was facilitated by the recent commitments of Tottenham’s first-choice right back Pedro Porro, who signed a new contract in June, as well as the addition of Andy Robertson to the squad for left-back cover. Faced with reduced playing time in the upcoming 2026-27 season, the 26-year-old defender has chosen to continue his career in Serie A.
Upon touchdown in Milan, Spence expressed his enthusiasm for the move, reportedly shouting “Forza Inter” as he was recorded by Sky Sport Italy. ESPN reported that the clubs have negotiated a transfer fee estimated at around €30 million ($34.6 million/£25.6 million).
Spence is leaving Tottenham after a four-year tenure in north London, where he made 85 appearances and earned a Europa League winners’ medal. Originally signed from Middlesbrough in July 2022 for £19m ($25.6m), his time at Spurs included several loan spells at Stade Rennais, Leeds, and Genoa. Despite a challenging start, Spence received substantial playing time under manager Ange Postecoglou during the 2024-25 season and featured in 44 matches in the last season, amidst a struggle for the club to avoid relegation.
This move marks Spence’s second stint in Italy, having previously spent six months on loan at Genoa in 2024. With Roberto De Zerbi’s leadership at Inter Milan, the versatile full-back aims to build on his promising World Cup performance and make a significant impact in Serie A.
