India’s Upcoming Tour of Bangladesh Faces Possible Postponement

BCB president Tamim Iqbal has indicated that India’s tour of Bangladesh, set for early next month, may be postponed. Ongoing discussions between the BCCI and BCB regarding the series have led to speculation about potential changes to the schedule.

The tour was originally scheduled for August last year but was postponed to September 2026. In January, the BCB announced that India would play three ODIs and three T20Is in Dhaka and Chattogram, although the BCCI has not publicly confirmed these plans. With just two weeks remaining until the first ODI on September 3, questions regarding the tour’s timeline have resurfaced.

During a press conference in Dhaka, Tamim announced the Game Development Trophy, an age-group tournament, with all matches planned at the Shere Bangla National Stadium from August 28 to September 9. When questioned about whether this tournament would affect India’s tour, Tamim remarked, “Both boards remain in discussion about the India series. The dates may be shifted here or there.” He added, “This tournament is being held in Mirpur but it can be shifted to the Basundhara ground in two minutes. If the India series is locked and fixed, we will schedule it accordingly.”

The relationship between the BCB and BCCI had previously soured when Kolkata Knight Riders withdrew Mustafizur Rahman from this season’s IPL, leading to the refusal of the Aminul Islam-led BCB to send a team to the T20 World Cup co-hosted by India. However, this tension has eased since Tamim’s visit to India earlier this month to reportedly tour the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
