FIFA Announces Maracanã Stadium for 2027 Women’s World Cup Opening Match and Final

FIFA has officially confirmed that the iconic Maracanã stadium in Rio de Janeiro will host both the opening match and the final of the 2027 Women’s World Cup. The tournament is set to commence on June 24, 2027, with Brazil playing in the opener as the top seed in Group A, which they will host.

Following the opener at Maracanã, Brazil will compete in two additional group stage matches. These will take place at Arena Itaquera in São Paulo on June 29 and at the Estádio Nacional in Brasília on July 4. The final match will occur at Maracanã on July 25, which will also serve as the venue for one of the semifinals.

Other cities hosting matches include Brasilia, Porto Alegre, Recife, and Salvador during the round of 16. Belo Horizonte and Fortaleza will join Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo in hosting the quarterfinals, ensuring that all eight host cities will each feature at least seven matches, including at least one knockout game.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino expressed his excitement about the upcoming tournament, stating, “We can’t wait to witness a new chapter of women’s football history unfold when the world’s best players, coaches, fans and local communities take centre stage in Brazil next year. I already have goosebumps thinking about the incredible passion, colour and energy that Brazilian fans will bring to the tournament as they welcome the world to eight vibrant Host Cities.”

The match schedule has been made available on FIFA’s digital platforms. A revised schedule will follow the final draw, which is scheduled to take place later in the year.
