US Open Singles Champions Set to Win Record $5.5 Million in 2026

NEW YORK — The United States Tennis Association (USTA) announced on Thursday that the champions of the 2026 US Open singles tournament will earn $5.5 million, marking the highest prize in Grand Slam tennis history. The overall compensation for this year’s tournament has reached a record $108 million, reflecting a 20% increase from 2025 and a 44% rise since 2024, with action set to commence next week.

All players reaching the 128-player singles main draw will earn $140,000, the largest amount in tennis history for first-round participants. Quarterfinalists will take home $780,000, semifinalists will receive $1.45 million, and runners-up will earn $2.8 million. This champions’ prize has increased from the $5 million awarded in 2025 to Aryna Sabalenka and Carlos Alcaraz when total player compensation was $90 million.

Additionally, winning teams in men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles will share a prize pool of $1 million, with the runner-up team receiving $500,000. Wheelchair singles champions will earn $104,000.

The USTA also introduced a new player support program, committing an initial $2 million to be evenly distributed between men’s and women’s players. This initiative aims to provide benefits and enhance existing pension funds. USTA CEO Craig Tiley referred to this financial commitment as a “significant first step in a multiyear investment in athletes,” asserting that the US Open remains the best economic opportunity for players as well as a valuable platform for fans and partners.

The program will be developed with input from the newly announced Grand Slam Player Advisory Council, established to address player calls for increased influence and revenue from the four major tournaments.
