Inter Miami’s Guillermo Hoyos Advocates for Privacy During Messi’s Return After Father’s Death
Inter Miami manager Guillermo Hoyos has stressed the importance of privacy as Lionel Messi transitions back into football following the death of his father, Jorge Messi, who passed away on August 8 at the age of 68 in Rosario, Argentina.
Hoyos shared his thoughts on the emotional impact of the loss, stating, “I think everything needs to unfold gradually; there is deep pain involved, and this isn’t something that changes overnight.” He emphasized the need for silence and tranquility, suggesting that this would allow Messi the space to find his own moments of healing. “We need to stand by him, sharing in that silence; to me, silence is important, that helps one eventually find a way forward,” he added.
Reports indicate that Messi flew to Rosario over the weekend to attend a private memorial service for his father before returning to Miami. He rejoined the team for the Leagues Cup match against Club León on Wednesday at Nu Stadium. Messi began the game on the bench but substituted in at halftime, receiving a warm standing ovation from fans as he took to the pitch.
On Friday morning, Messi trained with the rest of the team as they prepared to face Nashville SC in their upcoming MLS match. When asked about managing Messi’s minutes and communication with the captain, Hoyos reiterated the concept of respecting personal boundaries. “There are things that are deeply private. Just as each of you has your own private matters,” he stated, underscoring the need for silence amidst the challenges Messi is facing.
Inter Miami is set to play Philadelphia Union next Wednesday following their match at Geodis Park.
