Inside Fauci’s Secret Diary: The Shocking Truth He Never Shared With the Public

Date:

Released Diary Pages Ignite Political Clash Over Dr. Fauci and Covid Origins

Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky released more than 1,100 pages of Dr. Anthony S. Fauci’s private diary entries from early 2020, intensifying a long-running political dispute regarding the origins of COVID-19 and whether the former chief medical advisor misled Congress. Written as the novel coronavirus emerged, the typewritten notes show Dr. Fauci musing on Jan. 26, 2020, that Wuhan’s wet market acted as an “amplifier” rather than the initial source, while maintaining that the virus ultimately jumped from animals to humans.

Subcommittee Scrutiny and Debates Over Gain-of-Function Funding

The newly public documents emerge ahead of Dr. Fauci’s scheduled testimony under subpoena before the Senate Homeland Security Committee chaired by Mr. Paul. The ongoing investigation centers on whether the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases—which Dr. Fauci led for nearly four decades—funded “gain-of-function” research at a laboratory in Wuhan, China. While Mr. Paul contends that Dr. Fauci concealed government funding for viral genetic alterations and gave contradictory statements to lawmakers, Dr. Fauci has repeatedly denied these allegations, maintaining that his institute did not finance such research.

Behind-the-Scenes Uncertainty and Scientific Disagreements

Although public health officials initially dismissed the lab leak hypothesis as a conspiracy theory, the diary and associated emails reveal that Dr. Fauci and leading researchers harbored internal uncertainties about the virus’s provenance. Notes from an early conference call involving 11 scientists show that only two were convinced of a natural origin, while the remaining participants were uncertain. Critics have seized upon these private discussions as proof that the scientific community was far more fractured than previously acknowledged to the public.

Celebrity Interactions, School Closures, and Subsequent Disclosures

Beyond virus origins, the diary documents Dr. Fauci’s reflections on his intense public prominence during the pandemic, alongside interactions with prominent figures such as Barbra Streisand, Joan Baez, and Julia Roberts. The records also highlight policy divergences, including diary entries from March 2020 in which Dr. Fauci noted his role in encouraging local leaders to shutter schools in New York and California, contrasting with his later 2022 statement that he had “nothing to do” with school closures. On Monday, Mr. Paul released an additional 500 pages of historical records from 2001 detailing Dr. Fauci’s work on AIDS drug programs in Africa alongside former President George W. Bush.
