BTS’ V Reveals Struggle with Hearing Loss Over Two-Year Period

K-Pop star V, whose real name is Kim Taehyung, disclosed that he has been coping with significant hearing loss in one ear for more than two years. During an August 12 livestream, V shared the details of his condition, stating, “If my hearing on this ear is 100, the other ear can only pick up around 30.” He noted, “I think it’s been about two and a half years. My hearing has gotten worse,” according to The Korean Times.

The 30-year-old artist, a member of the globally popular group BTS along with Jung-Kook, Jimin, Suga, RM, J-Hope, and Jin, admitted that he initially underestimated the seriousness of his hearing impairment. V revealed that his condition worsened during his military service in South Korea, which he completed from 2023 to 2025. Surrounded by fellow service members who emphasized the importance of mental strength, he convinced himself that the hearing loss was not a significant issue. “It got a little worse in the military, and since I was surrounded by people who exercised a lot, everyone said, ‘it’s a matter of mental strength,'” he explained.

V’s candid confession marks a step towards acknowledging his health issue, suggesting he is beginning to address the reality of his hearing loss.
