Nicole Kidman Reflects on Healing After Divorce and Oscar Win
In a recent interview, actress Nicole Kidman opened up about her emotional journey following her divorce, which she described as a profound shock to her system. “It took me a very long time to heal,” she stated. Her divorce was finalized months after she began navigating the upheaval in her life.
During this challenging period, Kidman channeled her energy into her work, starring in major films such as Moulin Rouge! and The Others in 2001, followed by The Hours in 2002. Reflecting on her state of mind at the time, she revealed at the 2015 Women in the World Summit, “To be completely honest, I was running from my life at that time.” Kidman admitted she struggled to confront her reality, saying, “I wasn’t able to handle the reality of my life.”
As she immersed herself in various roles, Kidman noticed a parallel transformation within herself. “I then sort of embraced my own life and I got myself together,” she explained, recognizing that this process took several years. Her pivotal moment came in 2003 when she won an Oscar for her performance in The Hours.
However, the accolades did not bring her the fulfillment she anticipated. “That caused an epiphany, which was, ‘Actually, this is not the answer,'” she reflected. Despite being at The Beverly Hills Hotel, surrounded by grandeur, she was struck by a deep sense of loneliness, admitting it was “the loneliest I’d ever been.”
