Emmy Award-Winning Journalist Jaouad Celebrates Rare Breakthrough Amid Ongoing Leukemia Battle
Recently, Emmy Award-winning journalist Zaidah Jaouad experienced a significant moment in her ongoing battle with leukemia, a condition she was first diagnosed with in 2010. After relapsing in December 2021 and a further relapse in summer 2024, Jaouad reported a rare day of feeling “surprisingly well” amidst her challenges. She reflected on the unexpected positivity, contemplating whether to engage in gardening, tackle her backlog of emails, or host a friend for dinner.
In light of her health journey, Jaouad’s partner, Jon Batiste, has shared insights on how they navigate this difficult experience together. In an interview with E! News in March 2025, he commented, “It’s just a process,” emphasizing the indefinite nature of her treatments and the necessity for ongoing resilience until new innovations in care emerge.
Batiste further detailed their shared experience, noting, “Sometimes the cancer will be gone; other times, we’ll have to deal with what comes when it comes back and that’s just a part of our life. I support her in that.” His steadfast support remains a cornerstone of their partnership as they confront the complexities of her illness.
