Eva Longoria Reflects on Leaving Los Angeles for New Life in Mexico and Spain

Eva Longoria, best known for her role on Desperate Housewives, has transitioned from her long-time residence in Los Angeles to a new lifestyle split between Mexico and Spain. In an interview with Marie Claire in November 2024, she expressed her sentiments about leaving California, stating, “I had my whole adult life here.” Longoria highlighted the changing atmosphere in Los Angeles, noting that even before the pandemic, the “vibe was different,” and that Covid-19 was a tipping point for her decision to move.

The actress cited several factors contributing to her feelings about California: “Whether it’s the homelessness or the taxes,” she remarked, although she emphasized that her move was not intended to disparage the state. “It just feels like this chapter in my life is done now.”

For the past few years, Longoria, her husband José Bastón, and their son Santiago have spent significant time in Mexico and Spain. “I’m privileged,” she noted, referring to her ability to travel. “Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”

Longoria clarified that her relocation was not prompted by the political climate, including President Trump’s re-election. In a separate discussion on The View: Behind the Table podcast, she explained, “I left because my work took me there,” referencing her filming commitments for projects like Land of Women and Searching for Mexico, which required extensive time in Catalonia and Mexico.

Since her move, Longoria has remained active in the entertainment industry, recently appearing in Only Murders in the Building and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip.
